Bikes + Beers
It's another sunny, beautiful day in San Diego and the hubby and I spent it participating with 1,500 other San Diegans in the Bikes & Beers ride as a way to sight see around our city. The ride began at 10 AM and was approximately 22 miles through and around Downtown, Balboa Park, Hillcrest, Old Town, Sunset Cliffs, and San Diego Bay. How I wish I had pulled out my camera during the ride as the views were gorgeous, but it wasn't exactly a cake walk. Scaling hills and harmoniously riding in lanes with cars while navigating was slightly challenging, but it certainly was a fun, unforgettable experience. Pit stops for for hydrating, taking a quick rest and enjoying snacks kept us going strong to the finish, but the real motivator was the two pints of beer at the end of the course. Post-event festivities were held at Quartyard, an outdoor event space in the East Village neighborhood of downtown. We soaked up some vitamin D, had great conversation with people that I can only imagine will now be new friends, ate a food truck lunch, drank a few cold beers and listened to the DJ spin. The event supported BikeSD, a bicycle advocacy organization working to make San Diego a world-class city for biking. And what better way to do it than this!
