I had to commemorate the best flea market find I've had to date - a John Cougar Mellencamp vinyl - with a few self portraits. I couldn't help myself! This isn't just any record folks, this is the record with his first hit from 1979, "I Need A Lover." I have his albums on CD and digital format, but it was discovering his music by playing my mother's "American Fool" cassette (because the boy on the cover was cute) that got me hooked when I was 12 years old. Fast forward 13 years later and you could have found me at his concert in Dallas, Texas with my mom, both of us singing at the top of our lungs. Does a more perfect mother-daughter date even exist?! Still, another five years down the road, I was instantly giddy as I flipped through hundreds of records at the San Diego Swap Meet and came across this one (with my name all over it). How do I even begin to sum up my feelings here? He's a classic. My favorite driving music, dancing and drinking music. Favorite concert. Favorite song requests. Favorite record I currently own. Yep, Mellencamp is pretty much my favorite ever and probably always will be.
