We eloped! No big fancy wedding, family or bridezilla drama here - just a simple, private beach ceremony held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic on 15 de Deciembre de 2014 for only the two of us. And to answer your burning question right off the bat, no, I am not pregnant.
As a bride I did wear white, but the dress was far from traditional in every other sense. A vintage lace maxi dress by Spell & The Gypsy Collective fit the look and feel I wanted for saying ‘I do’ with salt in the air and sand between my toes. The Mr. wore a pale blue woven collared button-down, casually un-tucked with natural linen drawstring pants rolled to his ankles. We had brightly colored flowers such as Birds of Paradise incorporated into the bouquet, boutonniere and for my halo of flowers that were representative of our tropical destination. Music was tear inducing as I walked down the beach to Jason Mraz’s ‘I’m Yours’ played by a steel drum. After saying some very important words, exchanging our rings, sealing it with a kiss and signing the paperwork, we immediately popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
It truly was a magical experience as we were followed by a photographer to document the first moments of our new marital status. And the phone calls that followed to announce our news once we were back in the U.S. were filled with shrieks of excitement. Of course there was social pressure to have a traditional wedding in addition to added disappointment when people learned that we kept our plans secret, but they’ll get over it. After being engaged for just eight months, we decided to tie the knot sooner rather than later.
The second my feet touched the ground in Punta Cana, it was a week-long, extremely relaxing, extremely romantic vacation spent with the one person that matters most to me in this world. Who can be upset about that? Besides, I’m in the process of printing sets of photo albums for parents and grandparents and I welcome anyone else to request photos that may want them.
How does the old saying go - less is more, is it? It's definitely true because our simple, stress-free elopement was everything we wanted our wedding to be and more. Here's some of my favorite captured moments - I hope you enjoy viewing our day as much as we enjoyed living it.
