I can tell you many types of gemstone from a single glance. Working for a gemstone jewelry company for five years followed by other jewelry designers with the same design aesthetic certainly helped with my recognition skills. Before that though, I was a rock nerd.
Polished up, faceted, or in their natural rough state (which is my personal favorite), the precious + semi-precious stones that our Earth is capable of creating are stunning. Over the years I have picked up a few rocks of my own that I couldn't part with (one in particular that my little sister wrote on when she was very young), + I'm sure there will be others in the future.
Pictured below are diy geode magnets I made, a diy agate slice dream catcher that I also recently made, jewelry featuring rough cut stones, agate slab drink coasters, as well as several other rock specimen that I have sitting around the house . What's even more intriguing than their looks is oftentimes their meaning + properties. Whether a birth stone, luck, love, or healing representations - they all have an interesting background. Do you have a favorite stone? If so, please tell!
